ATIXA is pleased to announce the dates for our training and certification event in San Diego, CA! Join us from June 12-16, 2023, for the opportunity to engage with colleagues and presenters while receiving valuable in-person training.

In this one-day course, ATIXA faculty will provide a comprehensive overview of disability laws and guidelines regarding accommodations in both employment and postsecondary academic settings. Topics will include academic accommodations, service and emotional support animals, pregnancy and parenting, and mental health disabilities. Additionally, participants will explore the elements required for a well-developed grievance process and grievance forms and discuss best practices in organizational structure. NPRiMer: Preparing Your K-12 School or District for the 2023 Title IX Regulations

This half-day course will explore the procedural and substantive elements of the proposed Title IX regulations against the backdrop of ATIXA’s best practices approach to institutional sex-based discrimination and harassment grievance procedures, as well as more specific requirements for non-discrimination on the basis of pregnancy or related conditions. Title IX professionals will leave this course with a solid understanding of the proposed requirements in the various phases for the Title IX Grievance Process; training and reporting; awareness and response requirements for pregnant and parenting students and employees; protections for LGBTQIA+ individuals; and the scope and applicability of Title IX. Investigation Report Writing

Take a one-day deep dive into the writing mechanics, format, structure, and best practices for investigation report writing.

In this hands-on session, topics covered will include managing sensitive information, integrating quotations, addressing unavailable information, using footnotes, incorporating feedback from the parties post-report review, writing credibility assessments, and more. Faculty will review the most common errors they see in investigation reports and how to prevent them. Training participants will have the opportunity to critique sample investigation report excerpts with the faculty to evaluate both clarity and content.

Violence Risk Assessment with NABITA Endorsement

Monday Only, June 12 | 1:30pm-5:30pm PT

Violence Risk Assessment with NABITA Endorsement is a half-day course that will introduce participants to the VRA process. The Title IX regulations mandate an individualized safety or risk analysis if an institution is going to limit educational access (e.g., emergency removal), which can often take the form of a VRA. This program will help practitioners implement an evidence-based process that reduces bias, mitigates legal risk exposure, and ensures consistency in determining (1) if a VRA is warranted, (2) who should conduct the VRA, and (3) what to do after receiving the VRA results report. Those who attend the training will receive information on how to vet those conducting a VRA, how the VRA differs from other types of assessments, and how to work collaboratively with behavioral intervention, care, and/or threat assessment teams to ensure an effective and thorough process. NPRiMer: Preparing for the 2023 Title IX Regulations for Higher Education Overview + Implementation, Nuances & Best Practices

This two-day version of the 2023 Title IX Regulations Implementation for Higher Education course is offered to accommodate your training needs. This certification course provides a comprehensive review of the procedural and substantive elements of the 2023 Title IX regulations, with a focus on practical implementation strategies for Title IX administrators. This fully comprehensive two-day course provides additional nuances and best practices surrounding the Regulations.

Day One: Overview focuses on the revised regulatory requirements and the policy, procedural, and practice changes needed to ensure compliance.

Day Two: Implementation, Nuances & Best Practices will delve deeper into specific sections of the Final Rule, the nuances of each, anticipating challenges, and exploring how to implement key provisions. Expert presenters will place this discussion against the backdrop of ATIXA’s best practices approach for institutional sex-based discrimination and harassment grievance procedures, as well as more specific protections for non-discrimination on the basis of pregnancy or related conditions.

K-12 Title IX Coordinator One: Foundations is the first training in a series for K-12 administrators responsible for Title IX compliance and will provide a strong core foundation to understand their school’s obligations under Title IX and to promote gender equity in school settings. This training meets the minimum required training mandates under Title IX regulations for participants, whether you are a full-time Title IX Coordinator or have Title IX responsibilities in addition to other duties. Coordinator One: Foundations is one of two introductory courses in the Coordinator curriculum. This course focuses on an understanding of foundational law, case law, regulations, and regulatory guidance with emphasis on sexual harassment policy and procedures as required by the 2020 Title IX regulations. ATIXA recommends that all Title IX Coordinators and Administrators – whether new or more seasoned – complete this course. Even those who have previously completed Coordinator One will find this revised course to be of value, given the substantial changes to Title IX that have taken place since the course was originally designed. DEI Practitioner is a two-day course focused on developing an awareness of the civil rights laws, regulations, and policies related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education and employment settings. The course will review the historical context of non-discrimination laws and practices that inform current policies and practices. Participants will examine best practices for applying policy and procedural knowledge in response to incidents of bias and microaggressions, as well as navigating free speech issues. K-12 Title IX Coordinator Two is the second training in a series for K-12 administrators responsible for Title IX compliance. This course builds upon the foundational concepts covered in the Coordinator One course to provide a deeper dive into the scope of the role of a Title IX Coordinator and the requirements under the 2020 Title IX regulations. Through the use of a case study, attendees will apply the concepts required to spot Title IX-related issues and conduct an initial assessment to ascertain how to respond to an incident. This course will also focus on general compliance oversight responsibilities to include a discussion of navigating First Amendment protections and considerations when dealing with complaints involving employees. Title IX Compliance & Athletics

Wednesday Only, June 14 | 8:30am-4:30pm PT

This one-day course will touch on issues of sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, and culture in athletics, and will also do a deeper dive into Program Equity compliance. Attendees will leave with a better understanding of not only why the issues exist, but how to spot red flags and address them. The presenters will draw from the courts, the news, and from their experiences working with athletic departments of all types across the country, as well as the Olympic movement. Coordinator Two builds on the foundational material provided in Coordinator One and introduces many of the non-sexual harassment Title IX topics including pregnancy, minors, athletic equity, and intersection with Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This course also covers crossover between Title IX and the Violence Against Women Act’s (VAWA) amendments to the Clery Act, a brief discussion of climate surveys and prevention programming, and tips for structuring and evaluating your Title IX Team. Informal Resolutions: Foundations

Informal Resolution: Foundations is designed to introduce attendees to ATIXA’s Informal Resolution Framework and the foundational elements that need to be considered when determining if and how to offer informal resolution within an institution’s Title IX grievance process. Participants will learn about the variety of structural and policy decisions that need to be made as well as the impact of institutional culture on those decisions. Scholarship applications are now closed. All applicants will be notified by May 12, 2023.

Please note: If you or your organization has made payment for your attendance prior to receipt of award notification, registration dollars will not be refunded and your scholarship award with be forfeit.

Scholarships are awarded to attend training and certification courses only. Applicants must be able to provide their own transportation, lodging, and meals. There will be no virtual attendance options.

ATIXA understands that circumstances change, and issues may arise that prohibit your ability to attend this event after you have registered. Our cancellation and refund policy is outlined below:

  • Registration cancellation more than 6 weeks prior to registration deadline = 50% refund on the full registration price issued via cheque within 30 days of ATIXA receiving notification
  • Registration cancellation less than 6 weeks prior to registration deadline = no refunds on the full registration price
  • If you opt in for credit instead of a refund, you will receive 100% of the purchase price via a credit that can be used toward future ATIXA trainings.
