Client Need and Issue
A medium-sized public school district in the western U.S. sought assistance from TNG while under government agency review. District leaders recognized the need for additional expertise to navigate compliance obligations, respond to federal oversight, and strengthen district-wide Title IX practices.
The district previously relied on a decentralized model in which individual school administrators addressed complaints through traditional student disciplinary processes. While administrators were deeply committed to supporting students, practices varied across schools, policies and procedures required updating, case documentation was inconsistent, and the district lacked a comprehensive system for tracking reports and retaining records.
TNG Approach and Solution
TNG consultants served as Coordinator and Deputy Coordinator, working closely with district leadership, school administrators, legal counsel, and other key stakeholders. They helped the district to navigate active investigations, provide supportive measures, and meet government oversight and reporting requirements while implementing a more centralized approach to Title IX-related matters. Consultants reviewed incoming reports, conducted case screening, trained personnel, distinguished Title IX matters from other civil rights concerns, and guided appropriate responses for both student and employee matters. TNG also served as investigators and decision-makers for dozens of cases.
TNG helped to modernize the district’s Title IX infrastructure through a series of operational improvements, including policy and procedure revisions to align with state and federal requirements, training for district- and site-level personnel, and new processes to promote consistency across schools. TNG partnered with district leaders to develop a centralized database that improved case management, strengthened record retention, and supported more effective oversight of active matters.
Outcome
The district now operates with centralized Title IX oversight, clearer policies and procedures, improved responses to allegations, and stronger systems for documentation, case management, and record retention. Administrators have received ongoing training to support consistent implementation across schools, helping to ensure that Title IX matters are addressed more effectively and consistently district-wide.
Perhaps most importantly, the district has developed greater internal capacity to manage Title IX responsibilities while maintaining focus on its educational mission. The systems established during the engagement created a stronger foundation for long-term compliance and future regulatory oversight. District leaders have chosen to maintain TNG’s involvement as a trusted partner, ensuring continued progress and reinforcing the systems established throughout the engagement.
