A History of Title IX: Through the Lens of the Practitioner
In the months leading up to the golden anniversary of Title IX, we celebrate those who made this seminal law possible, those who have benefitted from Title IX to help achieve their dreams, and those Title IX professionals who have dedicated their lives to continuing the fight for sex and gender equity in education.
ATIXA and the New-York Historical Society have partnered in their newest exhibit titled, “Title IX: Activism On and Off the Field.” From May 13, 2022 to September 4, 2022, the Museum will hold this exhibit to immerse visitors in the spaces shaped by the groundbreaking 1972 legislation and reveals the crucial work of activists in demanding that their institutions live up to the law’s promise.

Time with IX: Doe v. Fairfax County School Board | June 3, 2022 from 3:00pm-4:30pm ET
Join Brett A. Sokolow, J.D., Chair, TNG & President, ATIXA and Alexandra Brodsky, J.D., a staff attorney at Public Justice. Alexandra litigates cases concerning civil rights abuses in schools and the criminal legal system with Public Justice’s Students’ Civil Rights Project and Debtors’ Prison Project. Alexandra will be speaking about her current case Doe v. Fairfax County School Board, in which Alexandra successfully argued an appeal in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit concerning Title IX’s “actual knowledge” standard, resulting in a powerful opinion ordering a new trial for a student victim of sexual assault.
Special 50th Anniversary Edition Time with IX: Discussing the book 37 Words: Title IX and Fifty Years of Fighting Sex Discrimination | June 23, 2022 from 3:00pm-4:30pm ET
Join Saundra K. Schuster, M.S., J.D., Partner, TNG & Advisory Board, ATIXA and Sherry Boschert, author of 37 Words: Title IX and Fifty Years of Fighting Sex Discrimination to discuss the historical legislative and legal drama that conflicts over regulations and challenges to the law. It’s also a human story about women denied opportunities, students struggling for an education free from sexual harassment, and activists defying sexist discrimination. These intersecting narratives of women seeking an education, playing sports, and wanting protection from sexual harassment and assault map gains and setbacks for feminism in the last 50 years and show how some women benefit more than others. Award-winning journalist Sherry Boschert beautifully explores the gripping history of Title IX through the gutsy people behind it.
