Small institutions face distinct challenges in Title IX work. Limited staffing, lean budgets, close-knit communities, reporting barriers, concerns about witness participation, and difficulties maintaining trained Title IX teams can make compliance and culture-building feel daunting.
This Time with IX session is a practical “bootcamp” for Title IX Coordinators and administrators at small colleges, universities, and K-12 schools who are building effective Title IX infrastructure with limited resources.
The session will address strategies for identifying and training institutional partners, building hearing panels and investigative support structures, encouraging reporting, improving witness participation, and allocating personnel in ways that are realistic for smaller institutions. The discussion will also consider the particular cultural dynamics of small schools, where overlapping relationships, visibility, fear of retaliation, and concerns about confidentiality may affect whether and how individuals engage with Title IX processes.
Participants will leave with concrete ideas for strengthening their Title IX programs, building institution-wide capacity, and cultivating a culture of reporting, responsiveness, and prevention, even when the Title IX office is small, under-resourced, or staffed by only one or two individuals.
