Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-HI) and Rep. Doris Matsui (D-CA) re-introduce their Patsy Mink and Louise M. Slaughter Gender Equity in Education Act of 2023 (GEEA) to celebrate the upcoming anniversary of Title IX. ATIXA is pleased to endorse this legislation after being asked by Sen. Hirono’s office.
The bill has been introduced in the 115th, 116th, and 117th Congress. As a reminder, it would create a new Office for Gender Equity within the U.S. Department of Education to coordinate Title IX activities within the Department and throughout other federal agencies; fund competitive grants for K-12 schools, colleges and universities, states, school districts, and other educational organizations to boost Title IX compliance programs; and provide Title IX coordinators with annual training, information, and best practices about Title IX compliance.
