(Chair: TNG Board of Directors; ATIXA Advisory Board): When we talk about keeping investigators fresh and sharp, one of the first things that occurs is the commitment to ongoing professional development and training. I don’t mean sitting in a room for days at a time listening to talking heads like us drone all; that can be one way to do it. But there are lots of different ways to keep fresh, and I hope you have some suggestions that you can share with our viewers today.

Dan Fotoples, J.D., M.A.(Director, Content Development, TNG): The first thing you need to think about is who are the people that you’re trying to train? Are they volunteers? Are they paid to do the work you’re training them to do? Are you outsourcing your work to external people? That will change how you train them because if they’re volunteering their time, you can’t very well make them sit in a room for several days on end, listening to the finer points of Title Nine and civil rights investigations. If they’re paid, you can do that if you can find the time in their schedule. That’s going to be your first consideration of what will be possible from a time perspective based on what I’m asking my investigators to do.
